Coats For Kids
Each Fall AIM collects coats, and winter clothes for distribution in
the inner-city. In 2003 Arlington Christian and Greater Atlanta Christian
Schools supplied our coats as school service projects. If interested in future
involvement, please email:
bo@hope4atlanta.org.
In the future it would be nice to
have a winter blanket giveaway and/ or gloves and hats.
Thanksgiving Baskets
On the Sunday prior to
Thanksgiving AIM and Lakewood partner to
distribute community Thanksgiving baskets. In 2003 East Cobb and Peachtree
Corners
Churches provided 100 food baskets for families. In the past we added a turkey for
each family which we were unable to do this year. If interested in future
involvement, please contact
bo@hope4atlanta.org
Hope 4 the Family
Hope 4 The Family is a Christmas
ministry to families. AIM involves families in service to earn Christmas gifts
through Community service. In 2003 AIM scaled back Hope 4 The Family
after a major donor ceased
involvement. The goal is to involve parents in
church/community service toward earning the Christmas presents given. We desire to allow parents the
dignity to be “Santa Claus” to their children. If interested in future
involvement, please email:
bo@hope4atlanta.org
School Supplies
Twice per year AIM provides school supplies for school age children. We organize a student “pack” with grade appropriate school
supplies.
If interested in providing school
supplies, please email:
sabirah@hope4atlanta.org
Food Distribution
Weekly emergency food items are
distributed each Wednesday from 11 to 2 at the AIM Facility. Volunteers are needed for the distribution
and to lead Bible studies
available during these hours. Additionally, we need food
packaged for the homeless (with easily opened tops and non-refrigerated items).
AIM purchases food from the
Atlanta Food Bank at $.20 on the $1.00 and a past donor of $1000 per year has
moved away, we are in prayer for that gift to
be replaced. If interested in future involvement, please email: sabirah@hope4atlanta.org
Additionally, on the
4th Sunday of each month AIM/ Lakewood
Church partner to provide community Food
Boxes after worship services. If interested please email:
alfred@hope4atlanta.org
Flea Market
One Saturday each
Quarter from 10 am to 2 pm at the AIM facility.
Donations are needed for
distribution which include clothing, household items, and small or large appliances
(which are operational). If interested in future
involvement, please email: sabirah@hope4atlanta.org
In setting up for the Flea Market
we have a different “Set Up” Team for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to prepare
the facility. Then we need a “Break Down” team
on Saturday from 2:30 to about 5:00 to clear away the room and set up for
worship the next morning (this is a more physical
involvement). These are quarterly needs.
The obvious need is for clothing,
household items, and small appliances to be donated for the Flea Market. Ideally, AIM would like to have two Churches of Christ serving as a “donation source”
each quarter with a AIM
bus brought to the facility to be filled by the churches membership before and
after their assemblies.
Kids Camp
Kids Camp is a Day Camp during
the summer months on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 to 2:30. We
seek youth, singles, or adult ministries to volunteer to staff one week of camp.
Presently, June 16-17 and July
12-14 remain open for 2004. For information contact
bo@hope4atlanta.org
Youth Camp
Youth Camp is the closing event
of the summer ministry in the North Georgia
Mountains on July
26-30, 2004. This is for 3rd to 6th
grade young people who have qualified to attend by their involvement and conduct
during the year. We will have a staff meeting on
Sunday evening with camp beginning on Monday morning and ending on Friday
afternoon. All staff positions are
considered open at this time. If interested please contact
bo@hope4atlanta.org
Living Free
There is a Support Group, which
is an all purpose recovery group, on Monday nights at the AIM facility from
7:00 to 9:00. With trained
volunteers AIM could expand this ministry. For information contact
bo@hope4atlanta.org
Super Saturday
Beginning in the Spring of 2004
AIM plans to launch Super Saturday for
children 4 years old to 2nd
grade in the communities on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 12:00. The goal is for 4
youth, singles, or adult ministries to volunteer one week per month which will allow Sidewalk Sunday
School in the Leila Valley and public housing development.
In the fall the goal is to expand
with 4 more weekly “ SS Teams” in Jonesboro North public housing development.
If interested in future
involvement, please email:
bo@hope4atlanta.org
Youth Bible Study
YBS is on Tuesday
night from 7:00 to 8:30 for youth 3rd to 12th grades at the AIM facility. Volunteers are needed for teaching small
groups, and additional drivers are needed.
Presently, we have a different team volunteering each week with the “weak” volunteer nights
on the 1st and 2nd Tuesday of the month. Additionally, We need CDL drivers and Bus Workers who would need to arrive by
6:10 till 9:30. Like the teaching teams, this is a once per
month commitment. Presently, AIM limits the number of children / youth to 45 because we are limited with
CDL Drivers and Bus
Team workers. If interested in future
involvement, please email:
bo@hope4atlanta.org
Adult Mentoring
In the Fall of 2004 AIM will partner with Lakewood
Church toward setting up mentoring relationships between new
Christians and church groups within partnering churches of Christ, to
keep in contact with the new Christian for growth and encouragement in their spiritual walk in Christ. Each
mentor will be asked for references from 2 church leaders and be involved in a training seminar.
If interested in future
involvement, please email:
bo@hope4atlanta.org
After School Center
Beginning with the 2004-05 School
Year AIM began an After School Center
from 3:00 to 6:00 called the S.A.Y. (Save America’s Youth) Yes: Center of Youth
Development. SAY Yes! began with a Monday/ Wednesday/ Thursday program with 14 young people. The goal is to expand SAY Yes to a 5 day program
with 25 young people in the 2005-2006 school year.
SAY Yes will need mentors at a
ratio of 1 mentor to 5 children. The mentor will need to connect
with the young people EACH day (meaning a daily commitment is required). Additionally SAY Yes will need
volunteers each day for the following areas: bus driver, Snack Volunteer, Recreation Leader, Bible Club
leader, Reading Tutor, Homework Tutor, Practical Living Leader, Computer Lab Leader, and Crafts
Leader. The volunteer positions will be one day per week (unless the volunteer was willing
to volunteer more often).
SAY Yes would like to have
churches volunteer to prepare a meal for the children before going home. The meal would begin with 12 days
per month with expansion to 20 days per month by the end of the school year.
This is an ideal involvement for
a small group or Bible study group within the 65 Churches of Christ in Atlanta
willing to commit to one meal per week or month. Possibly, a church might
volunteer to sponsor a young person’s SAY Yes tuition for one year at $2,500 per
student per year.
